AceShowbiz - Russell Crowe, known for his iconic role as Maximus Decimus Meridius in Ridley Scott's acclaimed 2000 film "Gladiator," has spoken out about his unease regarding the upcoming sequel, "Gladiator 2".
In an interview, Crowe said, "I'm slightly uncomfortable with the fact they're making another one because, of course, I'm dead and have no say in what gets done." He specifically expressed reservations about some plot details, stating that they "contradict the moral journey of that particular character."
Crowe, now 60 years old, reflected on the impact of the original film on his career. He acknowledged a sense of "melancholy and jealousy" stemming from the sequel's impending release. "I remember a time when I had tendons," he added.
In "Gladiator 2", Paul Mescal takes on the lead role as adult Lucius, who appeared as a young boy in the first movie. Mescal has expressed excitement while also acknowledging the pressure that comes with continuing such a legacy.
The sequel will also feature stars such as Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn and Connie Nielsen, who is reprising her role from the original film. "Gladiator 2" is set to hit theaters globally on November 22 with Ridley Scott back at the helm.
