AceShowbiz - On the 10th anniversary of the tragic accident that forever changed his life, Tracy Morgan, star of "30 Rock", has released a heartfelt statement reflecting on the profound impact it has had on him.
In a statement provided to PEOPLE, Morgan, now 55, expressed his love for the others who were in the vehicle with him that fateful night. "Today is 10 years since our fateful accident, and I want to say to everyone who was in the van with me that night, I love you," he said. He also paid tribute to his friend and mentor James McNair, known as "Uncle Jimmy Mac," who tragically lost his life in the crash.
Morgan extended forgiveness to the driver of the Walmart truck that collided with their limousine van. "To the driver that night and his family, me and my comrades forgive you," he stated.
The accident, which occurred on June 7, 2014, left Morgan in a coma for two weeks and sent three other passengers to the hospital with severe injuries. Morgan broke every bone in his face, his ribs, and pulverized his femur.
Following the crash, Morgan underwent months of rehabilitation and was forced to relearn how to walk and talk. He has since opened up about the traumatic brain injury he sustained and the strange behavior he exhibited after waking up from the coma.
In his 2017 Netflix comedy special "Staying Alive," Morgan discussed the incident, revealing that he was blind for a week after coming out of the coma and that strange things began disappearing from his hospital room.
Despite the challenges he has faced, Morgan has found a way to turn his experience into comedy. During a recent stand-up set in Boston, he joked about Walmart's generous settlement and how it prompted the company to change its truck mirrors to warn of pedestrians appearing closer than they seem.
However, Morgan has also acknowledged the deep loss he feels over McNair's death. "There isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss my friend Jimmy Mac," he wrote in 2019. "I love you Jimmy. I thank GOD for my family."
Ten years after the accident, Tracy Morgan's message of forgiveness and remembrance serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing loved ones.
