AceShowbiz - Chip Gaines refused to stay silent amid backlash over his "tone deaf" comments. The former HGTV star was slammed for saying he felt that "money is boring" and "everybody's got money," but instead of feeling remorseful about it, he remained defiant.
The 49-year-old made his remarks after an account suggested that he and his wife Joanna Gaines, both Baylor University graduates, should stay away from Scott Drew. Scott is the school's men's basketball coach, whom the University of Kentucky is reportedly trying to poach for their own head coaching position.
"Keep these two away from Scott Drew for the next 48 hours," Barstool Kentucky wrote to X, formerly Twitter, along with a picture of the reality stars. In response, Chip penned, "Yall wish."
"You don't wanna go band for band with us Chip," chimed in, adding several money bag emojis. The TV personality then replied, "Money is boring…everybody's got money... We've got God on our side."
Many have since criticized Chip's rhetoric. One person argued, "[Your] tweet is tone deaf to all the suffering because people don't have money. The Bible teaches us to have empathy & charity to those less fortunate. God appreciates prayers, he appreciates actions w/humility more. At least that[s] my King James Version.
Another stated, "Said by someone who doesn't have to worry about money." A different individual claimed, "The Bible says it's impossible for a rich man to get into Heaven."
Chip fired back at the backlash. He tweeted, "Ha.. not true. Harder, not 'impossible' Matthew 19-24."
Not stopping there, Chip clapped back at someone questioning his fame. When an X user asked, "Who tf is @chipgaines?", the father of five responded, "Do you kiss your mom with that mouth.. ask her who I am, she'll know."
