The beloved Disney television series has officially got a follow-up story and two of the lead stars are announced to reprise their respective roles in the new television series.

AceShowbiz - Disney Channel has greenlit a sequel series to the beloved "Wizards of Waverly Place" titled "Wizards" (working title). Original stars Selena Gomez and David Henrie will reprise their roles as siblings Alex and Justin Russo, respectively, and serve as executive producers.

Production begins in April in Los Angeles, with a premiere tentatively scheduled for later this year on Disney Channel and Disney+.

The series follows an adult Justin Russo (Henrie), who has chosen to lead a normal, mortal life with his family: his wife, Giada (Mimi Gianopulos), and their children, Roman (Alkaio Thiele) and Milo (Max Matenko).

However, when Justin's sister Alex (Gomez) brings a young wizard in training, Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), to his home seeking help, he must dust off his magical skills to mentor her while also juggling his everyday responsibilities and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.

Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who are behind another Disney Channel comedy spinoff, "Raven's Home", will write and executive produce the series.

Gary Marsh, the former longtime top Disney Channels creative executive who was instrumental in getting Gomez on the network, will also serve as an executive producer. Andy Fickman directed and executive produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.

"Wizards of Waverly Place captivated hearts with its spellbinding adventures and big laughs, creating unforgettable memories for kids and families everywhere," said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.

"We can't wait to step back into the magical world of 'Wizards,' inviting both longtime fans and a new generation to experience the enchantment alongside Selena, David, and our incredible cast and crew."
