AceShowbiz - Taika Waititi is not committed to doing "Thor 5". After directing the previous two installments in the Chris Hemsworth-starring film franchise, the filmmaker confirmed that he will not be returning for the next film.
The New Zealand-born director clarified that a fifth "Thor" movie is not among future projects on his plate during an interview with Business Insider. When doing press for his new movie "Next Goal Wins", he addressed rumors that Marvel Studios is developing "Thor 5" without him.
"I wouldn't know if that's accurate," the 48-year-old actor responded to the reports. "I know that I won't be involved." He then added, "I'm going to concentrate on these other films that I've signed on for."
Stressing that there's no hard feelings despite him not being involved in the next "Thor" movie, Waititi declared, "But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris." He added with a joke, "I would never feel like they are cheating on me."
The Oscar winner additionally said with a laugh, "We're in an open relationship, and it's like if they want to see other people, I'm happy for that. I'd still get back into bed with them one day."
As for what he's currently working on, Waititi revealed that he's still developing a "Star Wars" movie. "It's still marinating. I've been writing it," he told the outlet.
In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, Waititi hinted that it may take time for the project to be completed. "At the moment, I'm still developing something with them. Like me, they have a lot of projects going on," he said. "I think they're gonna push it until I finish these other projects. I've got about four other scripts that I'm trying to finish. My thing is I want to take my time with that and get it right. I don't want to rush this movie."
Back in 2022, Waititi expressed his interest in directing another "Thor" film under certain conditions. He told Insider, "Now, I don't know what would be next. I would definitely do one, but only if Chris did it. But it would need to be something surprising and unexpected for me to want to do it."
