In the wake of a humiliating 31-0 loss, the American Samoa soccer team is branded the worst in the world, a title they seem destined to keep. Enter Michael Fassbender as Thomas Rongen, a down-on-his-luck, temperamental coach whose last chance at redemption is this seemingly impossible assignment. Directed with heart and humor by Taika Waititi, this underdog sports drama follows Rongen as he arrives on the island to find a ragtag group of players, including the determined Jaiyah, played by Kaimana, who dream not of victory, but simply of scoring a single, respectable goal. Facing cultural clashes, his own personal demons, and a team with unshakable spirit, the embittered coach must learn that winning isn't everything in a journey that is as much about healing as it is about soccer. With a supporting cast featuring Elisabeth Moss and Oscar Kightley, the film blends heartfelt drama with Taika Waititi's signature comedic touch, exploring the true meaning of teamwork and the courage found in simply getting back on the field.
