The 'Mariage Story' leading lady, who was married to the 'Deadpool' star from 2008 and 2011, praises her ex-husband when discussing marriage with Gwyneth Parlow.

AceShowbiz - Scarlett Johansson made a rare comment about her ex-husband Ryan Reynolds in a new interview. When appearing on Gwyneth Paltrow's "Goop" podcast, the "Black Widow" star described the "=Deadpool" actor as a "good guy."

The 38-year-old praised her former spouse while discussing marriage with the Oscar winner. "You've been married two times?" asked the 50-year-old actress and businesswoman, to which her pal replied, "Three times."

"Oh that's right, because I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds! Goals!" Gwyneth added. Scarlett then explained, "Yes... We weren't married very long, but we were when I first met you, for Iron Man [2] or whatever."

"We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our house," Gwyneth gushed. Scarlett, who was married to Ryan from 2008 to 2011, then replied with a laugh, "He's a good guy."

Following her divorce from Ryan, Scarlett moved in with French journalist Romain Dauriac. The exes, who shares 8-year-old daughter Rose, tied the knot in 2014 but called it quits in 2017. Scarlett is now happily married to Colin Jost, while Ryan is now married to Blake Lively, with whom he shares four kids.

During the interview, Scarlett was asked what she's learned from her previous relationships. "How has your shift towards marriage or long-term relationships changed? What have you learned?" the host question. In response, Scarlett elaborated, "It's funny... I knew Colin for a long time, but only kind of through work."

"And when we first started seeing other, I would never have probably been ready for a relationship like the one that I have with Colin at different times in my life because I wasn't comfortable with setting my own boundaries, and I didn't know what I wanted or needed from somebody else," she continued. "I think one of the things that I realized is that there are certain fundamental things in your own personality that you need - me, anyway, [that] I needed to share with the other person."

The "Mariage Story" leading lady, who shares son Cosmo with the "Saturday Night Live" star/writer, went on to note, "Obviously it's hard to be in a relationship anyway because you have to compromise all the time and sometimes your lives separate and come back together." She then detailed, "I never realized, 'Oh, it's really important for me, I need to be with a compassionate person. That's a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.' "

"That's why it worked with Colin and I at that time," Scarlett stated. "[Because] I was finally able to step back and actually respect myself enough to know what those [fundamental] things were and be okay with it, you know? That was a life lesson."
