AceShowbiz - Only a few artists have earned competitive Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards. So far, there are only 17 entertainers who have achieved the coveted title, which has been referred to as the "grand slam" of show business, for their impressive works.
At the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys last week, some artists were named as first-time Emmy winners, making them close to receiving the prestigious EGOT status. Ahead of the Primetime Emmys on September 12, AceShowbiz has listed first-time Emmy winners who are only a Tony award away from achieving the EGOT title.
No one will deny Cher's icon status. Cher has been called the Queen of Reinvention, the Goddess of Pop as well as the Queen of Comebacks. Unfortunately, Cher has not (yet) won all four EGOT awards.
However, Cher is quite close as she's three-fourths of the way there. In 1987, the 76-year-old star won an Oscar for her works in "Moonstruck". Then in 1999, she took home a Grammy for her hit "Believe". In 2003, she won a Primetime Emmy in the category for Outstanding Variety, Musical or Comedy Special for "Cher: The Farewell Tour".
With an Emmy, an Oscar and a Grammy under his belt, Common is just a Tony away from being one of the artists to earn an EGOT. The rapper, music composer and producer first won a Grammy in 2003 for his 2002 collaboration with Erykah Badu titled "Love of My Life".
Then in 2015, Common veered into Oscar territory when he sealed a trophy for "Glory" with John Legend. In 2017, the 50-year-old star became the very first rapper to win an Emmy, Grammy and Oscar after he notched an Emmy for his socially conscious track "Letter to the Free".
Kristen Anderson-Lopez is also one step closer to joining her husband Robert Lopez, who completed his EGOT title in 2014. The music composer began collecting the awards with her 2013 Oscar win for the song "Let It Go".
Then in 2015, Kristen successfully nabbed a Grammy for "Frozen" compilation soundtrack as a whole. Last year, she was named a first-time Emmy winner after taking home the Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics award for "WandaVision" main title theme music and song "Agatha All Along".
Caitrin Rogers only needs a Tony award to join the 17 artists who have the prestigious EGOT title. Caitrin, who is known for "Twenty Feet From Stardom", first won an Emmy for Outstanding Informational Programming - Long Form for "The Tillman Story".
Then in 2014, the filmmaker, who has produced documentaries on a wide variety of subjects from war and politics to music and sports, took home an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature for her works in "Twenty Feet From Stardom". The following year, she also nabbed a Grammy for Best Music Film for "Twenty Feet From Stardom".
Eminem's recent Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show won an Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special during the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys held in Downtown Los Angeles. With the win, the legendary hip-hop star now just needs a Tony award to reach the coveted EGOT status.
Eminem, who has won 15 Grammys and has been nominated 44 times, got his Grammy win out of the way early, winning two in 2000. His sophomore album "Slim Shady" won Best Rap Album and his breakout single "My Name Is" won Best Rap Solo Performance. A few years after his Grammy wins, he expanded into Hollywood, starring as B. Rabbit in the 2002 semi-autobiographical film "8 Mile". The movie won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Also taking home an Emmy at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy was Ringo Starr. The musician, songwriter and actor who achieved international fame as the drummer for The Beatles took home an Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series for Disney+ documentary series "The Beatles: Get Back".
As for Grammy, Ringo has won eight awards as a member of The Beatles and an additional Grammy for the 1972 Album of the Year-winning charitable efforts, "The Concert for Bangla Desh". Meanwhile, the 82-year-old musician won an Oscar more than five decades ago for Best Original Song Score for the music from The Beatles documentary "Let It Be".
Adele also needs only one Tony award to join the list of artists who have the prestigious EGOT title following her first Emmy win at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The "Easy On Me" hitmaker took home the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) gong for her CBS special "Adele One Night Only".
Adele first won a Grammy in 2009 in Best New Artist category. Throughout her career, she has won fifteen Grammys. As for her Oscar, she received it in 2013 for Best Original Song for "Skyfall", which also serves as the very first Oscar for a Bond film in 47 years. While celebrating her recent Emmy win, she joked that she "officially has an EGO."
Paul McCartney is also three-fourths of the way to getting the EGOT status. The musician, who's known for his work with The Beatles, shares an Emmy for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series for Disney+ documentary series "The Beatles: Get Back" with Ringo Starr.
Paul also shares his 1971 Oscar win with Ringo for Best Original Song Score for the music from The Beatles documentary "Let It Be". When it comes to Grammys, Paul, who won his first Grammy after leaving The Beatles, has won 18 awards and has been nominated over 80 times.
