AceShowbiz - Loni Love has confirmed that "The Real" is canceled after eight seasons on the air. Aside from confirming the ending of the long-running talk show in a social media post, the co-host of the show revealed what actually "killed" the daytime show.
On Friday, April 8, the 50-year-old TV personality turned to her Instagram account to share a statement that read, "In the end 'The Real' cast & crew did everything we could to scale the show down…" She added, "We shot 7-8 shows in 3 days, no audience, made a conference room into a studio, but in my opinion Covid costs killed this show."
"It's been a great ride and thanks to the viewers for 8 great seasons!" Loni continued in her statement. In the caption of her post, the TV hostess went on to thank the viewers once again. "Thank you to the fans for the great ride…," she penned.
Many were quick to show some support to Loni and other "The View" co-hosts, Tamera Mowry, Jeannie Mai and Tamar Braxton. Brie Bella commented, "Sad to see it go!!! Loved all you ladies!! [red heart emojis]." In the meantime, Tika Sumpter left a bunch of red heart emojis.
"Loni! I'm sorry to read this chapter is ending for you… but what an incredible career & life experience for you," Brooke Lewis chimed in. The 46-year-old actress went on gushing, "You are such a STAR & I cannot wait to see all the creative projects you are a part of in your next chapters. Blessings to you my friend."
Sources of the production told Variety that Warner Bros. opted to end the show after Fox stations declined to pick up another season. The insiders further stressed that "the move is not related to the launch of 'The Jennifer Hudson Show'."
The rumors of "The Real" cancellation came just days after Nick Cannon's self-titled show was axed five months following its premiere. Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein, co-presidents of the show's producer-distributor, Lionsgate's Debmar-Mercury, said in a statement, "It's never easy to cancel a production with clear potential."
Following the speculations, Loni expressed some sympathy to "the 150 crew members." On March 13, she tweeted, "It's been busy a few days but I got a call from the studio. No official decision has been made about #TheReal. I will be ok but please give grace to the 150 crew members. This may affect [them]."
