The former Victoria's Secret model reportedly 'has been hoping' her husband 'would retire for a few years' after he won the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as she'd 'really worry about him.'

AceShowbiz - Gisele Bundchen apparently has been waiting for Tom Brady to hang up his jersey for some time. Shortly after her husband of twelve years announced his retirement from the NFL, the former Victoria's Secret model is reportedly "really happy."

"Gisele has been hoping he would retire already for a few years, especially after he won the Super Bowl with the Bucs," a source spilled to PEOPLE on Tuesday, February 1 following Tom's announcement. "She's really happy because she would really worry about him."

The so-called inside source went on to point out that Gisele "hates seeing him get hit." The insider also added that the dad of three is "just ready for the next chapter" with his family. "Every year he would weigh his options but this year felt different," the informant said.

Shortly after Tom announced his official retirement after 22 seasons, Gisele took to her Instagram account to share a sweet supportive message. "What a ride @tombrady ! So many memories! When I met you over 15 years ago, I didn't know the first thing about football," she penned. "But cheering for you and seeing you do what you love most made me learn about this wonderful game to the point that I seriously believed I knew more than the referees!"

"We always had a special champions playlist for every drive on our way to the game," Gisele continued. "The Devil Wears Prada" actress went on saying, "As a family, we always prayed for you, celebrated and supported you in every game, cheered every win and suffered with every loss."

Gisele then praised her husband of twelve years, "I'm so proud of you, and of everything you have had to overcome physically and emotionally over the years." She went on to note, "Words can't really express how grateful I am to everyone who has been so supportive of my husband and our family for so many years," before concluding her message, "With all my love, Gisele."

In the comment section, Tom expressed his gratitude to Gisele, who keeps supporting him during the hard times. "I couldn't do it without your love and support! You make everyday of my life brighter and more fun and you challenge me to be my best in every aspect of my life," wrote the 44-year-old athlete. He then gushed, "You are my biggest supporter and I love you more than anything in this world," adding a bunch of red heart emojis.

Tom announced the news with a photo of himself playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Underneath the picture, he wrote, "I've done a lot of reflecting this past week and have asked myself difficult questions. And I am so proud of what we have achieved. My teammates, coaches, fellow competitors, and fans deserve 100% of me, but right now, it's best I leave the field of play to the next generation of dedicated and committed athletes."

"This is difficult for me to write, but here it goes: I am not going to make that competitive commitment anymore," Tom continued. "I have loved my NFL career, and now it is time to focus my time and energy on other things that require my attention."

Although Tom pointed out that "the future is exciting," he admitted that he doesn't know "exactly what [his] days will look like." He added, "I am going to take it day by day. I know for sure I want to spend a lot of time giving to others and trying to enrich other people's lives, just as so many have done for me."
