AceShowbiz - Jean-Marc Valle has passed away. It was reported that the "Dallas Buyers Club" and "Big Little Lies" director died suddenly at the age of 58 at his cabin outside Quebec City. A cause of his death remains unknown.

Following his passing, Valle's producing partner Nathan Ross said in a statement, "Jean-Marc stood for creativity, authenticity and trying things differently. He was a true artist and a generous, loving guy." Ross added, "Everyone who worked with him couldn't help but see the talent and vision he possessed."

"He was a friend, creative partner and an older brother to me," Ross continued. "The maestro will sorely be missed but it comforts knowing his beautiful style and impactful work he shared with the world will live on."

Also offering a tribute to Valle was HBO. "Jean-Marc Vallee was a brilliant, fiercely dedicated filmmaker, a truly phenomenal talent who infused every scene with a deeply visceral, emotional truth," the network said in its statement.

"He was also a hugely caring man who invested his whole self alongside every actor he directed," HBO further noted. "We are shocked at the news of his sudden death, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his sons, Alex and Emile, his extended family, and his longtime producing partner, Nathan Ross."

Vallee, who was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, studied filmmaking at the College Ahuntsic and the Universite du Quebec a Montreal. Vallee made his debut movie "Black List" in 1995. However, his breakout came with "C.R.A.Z.Y." which was released in 2005.

In 2014, he received an Oscar nomination for directing "Dallas Buyers Club". The film also won three Academy Awards, including one for lead actor Matthew McConaughey and another for supporting actor, Jared Leto.

As for Valle's TV directing work, it included "Big Little Lies" and "Sharp Objects". The Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman-starring show earned him the DGA Award and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing, while the 2018 series was nominated for eight Emmys.

Vallee is survived by his sons, Alex and Emile, as well as siblings Marie-Josee Vallee, Stephane Tousignant and Gerald Vallee.
