The 'Liquid Spirit' singer is mourning the losses of his brother who passed away after a battle with Covid-19 and sister who died following a struggle with cancer.

AceShowbiz - Gregory Porter's brother has died from COVID-19.

The jazz singer revealed during an interview with Britain's The Guardian newspaper in April 2020 that one of his brothers was in hospital battling the virus.

In a chat with The Sunday Post, Gregory announced that his sibling had sadly lost his fight against the illness.

"The pandemic caused great reflection after the death of my brother from Covid. There was serious pain and loss," he said.

Porter also revealed that his sister had died from cancer, while he's a new dad to a three-month-old baby, so he's gone through a wide array of emotions.

"My sister passed from cancer as well, so it was difficult for my family," the "Liquid Spirit" star explained. "But it was also about renewed life. I spent a lot of time with my son, and I've had another child - I have a three-month-old baby. It's been a lot of things - beautiful, tragic and in some ways cathartic."

He also lost his pals to the virus, "There's been about four people from a club I worked at in Harlem, St Nick's Pub (who have died). I was on a cruise with Wallace Roney recently. It's right in your face."

To get through lockdown while worrying about his brother, Gregory has been listening to uplifting songs.

"So musically, this is not the time for anything mean, aggressive or negatively confrontational," he explained. "I'm in search of beauty, uplift and answers."

"The late Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, and Nat King Cole, that's the palette of sounds playing in my house. And Donny Hathaway, John Coltrane, Hank Mobley - music that is comforting, grounding and soulful, both instrumentally and lyrically."
