The 'Liquid Spirit' star reveals he is gripped anxiety as one of his siblings is diagnosed with a very serious case of coronavirus amid the global pandemic.

AceShowbiz - Jazz star Gregory Porter fears for his brother's life as he battles a "very serious case" of the coronavirus.

The Grammy winner has seven siblings, one of whom, Lloyd, owns a cafe in New York, and revealed that one of his brothers is now in hospital in the Big Apple battling the virus in a chat with British newspaper The Guardian.

"I'm at home in California but my brother is in hospital in New York with coronavirus, and his situation is very serious," he said. "So this is a very difficult time, very trying. It's springtime here, outside everything is beautiful and the flowers are popping out - yet many of my friends have died."

Explaining how he has lost pals, and was hit hard by the death of jazz legend Wallace Roney, the "Liquid Spirit" singer added, "There's been about four people from a club I worked at in Harlem, St Nick's Pub (who have died). I was on a cruise with Wallace Roney recently. It's right in your face."

To get through lockdown while worrying about his brother, Gregory has been listening to uplifting songs.

"So musically, this is not the time for anything mean, aggressive or negatively confrontational," he explained. "I'm in search of beauty, uplift and answers.

"The late Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, and Nat King Cole, that's the palette of sounds playing in my house. And Donny Hathaway, John Coltrane, Hank Mobley - music that is comforting, grounding and soulful, both instrumentally and lyrically."
