'The Bourne Identity' actor takes on the role of French knight Jean de Carrouge, whereas his 'Good Will Hunting' co-star portrays Count Pierre d'Alencon in the historical drama directed by Ridley Scott.

AceShowbiz - Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have revealed their characters were supposed to kiss in the original script for Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel".

Matt's French knight Jean de Carrouge was due to lock lips with Ben's Count Pierre d'Alencon during a ceremony in the historical drama until the British director nixed the moment because he felt the kiss would be "distracting."

"In the original actual version of that scene - the way that ceremony actually took place was that you kissed everybody on the mouth. And we had that in the script. That would've been our first on screen kiss," Matt told Entertainment Tonight.

Ben, meanwhile, chimed in, "It's going to have to wait." The "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" actor added, "Ridley thought it would be distracting, and his instincts are pretty good."

As the characters dislike each other on screen, "The Bourne Identity" star agreed the scene would not have worked as written.

However, a moment of improvisation from Ben - where he requires Matt to kneel before him twice - has made the final cut. "Yeah the two characters really hate each other and that was really fun," Matt added.

"In fact, the scene where I kneel before him, Ben just improvised this thing where I started to say my line and he just interrupted me and goes, 'Closer.' And I have to kind of get up and kneel again in front of him. And that was just -- he just did that and just kind of blurted that out, and it wasn’t in the script."
