The actress/singer shares that music, where she eventually finds healing and happiness from, helps her deal with the breakup from the Swedish actor, who is also her 'Descendants 3' co-star.

AceShowbiz - Dove Cameron gets candid about her split from Thomas Doherty. As she promotes her new single "LazyBaby", the "Descendants 3" star shared in a new interview that she has found healing and happiness through music as the breakup hugely affected her.

" 'LazyBaby' is about a breakup, or well, it follows post-breakup," the actress told Entertainment Tonight. Referring to her split from Thomas in December, she continued, "I went through a very public breakup last year, and I was in a really bad place, like a really, really bad place."

"The breakup f**ked me up," Dove admitted. "It was really hard, and I needed something that was going to get me from where I was, in the mourning process, into the other side. I didn't quite know how I was going to do that."

The 25-year-old also shared that the COVID-19 pandemic didn't help her situation. "I was alone, and it was during the pandemic. No one could come out and see me and I couldn't leave Canada, and everything was shut down. So I was really struggling to work through that," she recalled.

That was why she turned to music to heal herself. "I do best when I can laugh at my pain," she said about working on "LazyBaby", which she described as "kind of satirical, comedic and uplifting." She added, "[The song] really helped me get from one place to the next, with the break-up."

Dove also claimed that her ex loved the song. "He listens to it all the time. I sent it to him before it came out, and he still sends me voice notes all the time," the musician said, claiming "everything's very amicable" despite them ending their romantic relationship.

Dove, meanwhile, remains optimistic when it comes to her love life. "I personally believe we have many soulmates in this life, but I don't think that somebody stops being a soulmate when you break up. I will love him differently now," she explained. "I think if you loved somebody that deeply, you're always going to love them that deeply. He's one of my favorite people in the world... I don't think we could ever be not in a good place. Even when we were breaking up."
