AceShowbiz - Cecily Strong has struck an unlikely friendship with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Days after she parodied the female politician on "Saturday Night Live", the regular cast member of the NBC sketch show revealed that she has received a care package that included cases of beer and goodies from the former.

"Got a giant and gorgeous Michigan care package sent to New York courtesy of that super cool woman from Michigan," wrote the 36-year-old in an Instagram post. "Thank you @gewhitmer !!!" Her thank-you note accompanied a snap of the beer from Bell's Brewery, the largest independent craft brewery in Michigan, as well as the T-shirts, mugs, pens and stickers that came along.

Admitting that the gifts blew her away, Strong expressed her gratitude to "SNL" writers Sudi Green and Fran Gillespie for "always writing wonderful funny pieces." She added an apology for not being able to share the beer with them, writing in her Sunday, May 3 post, "I'm sorry I can't share with you in person, so cheers to you from afar!"

Strong caught Governor Whitmer's attention after she portrayed the latter in a skit for a late April episode of "SNL". In it, she gave a hilarious take on the state's stay-at-home orders in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. All the while she delivered the instructions, she could be seen sipping a Labatt Blue beer.

While the Governer agreed that Strong's sketch was funny, she had issue with the beer the comedienne was drinking. In an interview with Fox 2 News, the 48-year-old member of the Democratic Party simply pointed out, "We love Canada, but we drink Michigan beer!"

"SNL" has made a return to the small screen with remote episodes weeks after the novel COVID-19 shut down many TV productions. It came back on April 11 with Tom Hanks serving as its host and Chris Martin providing the musical entertainment. Its second remote episode, meanwhile, has Brad Pitt offering his funny take on Dr. Anthony Fauci.
