'American Horror Story' Star Harry Hains Battling Mental Illness and Addiction Before Death at 27

The Australian actor, musician and model, who was also the son of actress Jane Badler, passed away on Tuesday, January 7 with a memorial service being arranged for Sunday, January 12 in Los Angeles.

AceShowbiz - A multi-talented star has gone too soon at a young age. Australian actor, musician and model Harry Hains, who was known for his appearance in 2015's film "The Surface" and on TV series "The OA", passed away on Tuesday, January 7.

Confirming the sad news was none other than his mother, actress Jane Badler, who remembered his "beautiful" son in a Thursday, January 9 Instagram post. "On Jan 7 my beautiful son died . He was 27 and had the world at his feet," so she wrote, along with candid, modeling and family pictures of his son.

Jane revealed that her son was battling mental illness and addiction before his sudden passing, but did not share her son's cause of death. "But sadly he struggled with mental illness and addiction," she continued in the caption. "A brilliant spark shone bright too short a time .. I will miss you Harry every day of my life."

The 66-year-old actress, who is best known for her main antagonist role on NBC's series "V", additionally announced a memorial service planned for Harry, writing, "If you are in LA and know harry there is a service for him at Hollywood Forever Sunday jan 12 at 3 pm . 6000 Santa Monica Blvd .. RSVP [email protected]."

Harry was born in Australia and was a pre-med student before he ditched school and moved to London, New York and eventually Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career. He appeared on FX's "American Horror Story: Hotel" and Amazon's series "Sneaky Pete". He also produced music under the pseudonym ANTIBOY.

Identifying himself "in the realm of gender fluid," he once opened up about his struggle with substance abuse. Though he came from a "good family," he admitted to have suffered from a sleeping disorder growing up that had him start taking pills at a young age.

"Maybe I have a part of me that is self-destructive, because I think I do have that," Harry told "Boys by Girls". "Growing up I had a very serious sleeping disorder called Idiopathic Insomnia. I couldn't sleep for my entire childhood until I started taking sleeping pills at 12/13. So I was tortured by sleep deprivation and I had a lot of phobias."
