Alicia Newby, a pregnant mum-of-six, cried during a court hearing on Sunday (July 28) as she faced a criminal felony charge of continuing a financial crime enterprise for allegedly racking up over $12,000 (£10,000) in fraudulent purchases after posing as the "Empire" star.
The 29-year-old woman, who was arrested at her apartment on Saturday, stands accused of hacking into Henson's email account and gaining access to credit card information, sources tell the Chicago Tribune.
Prosecutors told the judge that representatives for the actress reached out to Chicago police officials after her manager discovered unauthorised charges in her account.
Newby has since been released from jail on $10,000 (£8,200) bail. She will be monitored electronically ahead of the commencement of her trial.
