Stopping by 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon', the 'Nocturnal Animals' actor talks about the challenges he faced on his return to New York's Public Theatre for a new play, 'A Life'.

AceShowbiz - Jake Gyllenhaal had to multi-task during his new play "Sea Wall/A Life" when an audience member suffered a coughing fit as he performed a monologue.

The actor felt so bad for the lady he dashed offstage and grabbed a bottle of water, so the show could continue without interruption.

"You just gotta roll with it," Jake explained during an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Tuesday, February 19. "I felt so bad for her, and so I just asked her if she was OK in the middle of the monologue, and then ran off stage and I got water and I gave it to her."

Gyllenhaal's return to the stage for the New York's Public Theatre play, has been full of snags that would distract many stars, but the "Brokeback Mountain" star quite likes the challenge of overcoming problems - live.

"Things happen every night but usually when you're doing a play, you know, a phone goes off or something happens," the star told "The Tonight Show" host Jimmy Fallon. "Any random thing happens in an audience every night. So many strange things like opening up a candy that you can hear so loudly.

"(The other night) someone was singing in the hallway, like warming up their voice, and everyone could hear it."
