AceShowbiz - Kate Winslet is making her return to the small screen. The "Titanic" star is set to star on HBO's upcoming limited series titled "Mare of Easttown". Gavin O'Connor has been tapped to direct all the episodes. Deadline was the first to report the news.

On the dark series, "The Reader" actress will take on the role of a small-town Pennsylvania detective who investigates a local murder at a time when her own life is crumbling around. Winslet will be the latest A-list movie actress who signs up for TV shows after Amy Adams ("Sharp Objects") and Nicole Kidman ("Big Little Lies").

Winslet was last seen on TV in 2011 when she starred on "Mildred Pierce" which earned her an Emmy. Adapted from James M. Cain's 1941 novel of the same name, it saw Winslet playing an overprotective, self-sacrificing mother during the Great Depression. She found herself separated from her husband before opening a restaurant of her own and falling in love with a man, all the while trying to earn her spoiled, narcissistic elder daughter's love and respect.

"Mare of Easttown" is created by Brad Ingelsby ("Run All Night", "American Woman") who also pens the script and serves as showrunner. Additionally, Ingelsby executive produces alongside O'Connor, Winslet, Gordon Gray and his Mayhem Pictures, as well as Paul Lee and Mark Roybal of wiip. The upcoming series is a co-production between HBO and wiip.

It will join a slew of limited shows from the premium cable network. Also starring Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Dern and Shailene Woodley, "Big Little Lies" is set to air its second season in 2019. "Sharp Objects", meanwhile, has earned a number of guild award nominations and Golden Globe and SAG Award nods for both Adams and Patricia Clarkson, the latter of whom won a Golden Globe award for best supporting actress in a limited drama category.
