Pleading guilty to one count of tax evasion, the former 'Jersey Shore' regular is also sentenced to 500 hours of community service and is told to pay a $10,000 fine within 30 days.

AceShowbiz - Reality TV star Mike Sorrentino has been ordered to serve eight months behind bars for tax evasion.

The "Jersey Shore" regular, also known as The Situation, was initially indicted in 2014 for allegedly filing fraudulent paperwork to hide his debts and almost $9 million (£6.9 million) in earnings with officials at America's Internal Revenue Service over a three-year period.

Last year, he was also slapped with additional federal charges of tax evasion and structuring, and falsifying records to avoid detection of assets. He pleaded not guilty to all nine counts.

In January, Sorrentino ended up pleading guilty to one count of tax evasion, and he was handed prison time during his sentencing hearing in New Jersey federal court on Friday, October 05.

The MTV star was also slapped with two years of supervised release following the stint behind bars, 500 hours of community service, and a $10,000 (£7,600) fine due within 30 days. Sorrentino had already paid just under $124,000 (£94,600) in restitution.

The 36 year old, who had been battling substance abuse at the time of his arrest, was supported in court by his fiancee, Lauren Pesce, and his "Jersey Shore" castmates.

Meanwhile, his brother Marc was also handed prison time for his role in the crime. He received two years behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of aiding in the preparation of a false and fraudulent tax return.
