If she seals the deal, the 'Murder on the Orient Express' actress will join the cast alongside Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning and Ed Skrein.

AceShowbiz - As "Maleficent 2" is currently in development, a new name may soon be added into the list of cast members of the movie. Michele Pfeiffer is in advanced talks to join the sequel of "Maleficent" starring Angelina Jolie, according to Variety.

Pfeiffer was last seen on big screens playing Mrs. Caroline Hubbard/ Linda Arden in 2017's detective movie "Murder on the Orient Express". Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the movie was based on a novel written by Agatha Christie. In the same year, she starred on "The Wizard of Lies" as Ruth Madoff. Pfeiffer will next be seen in "Ant-Man and the Wasp" as Janet Van Dyne, who disappears in Quantum Realm.

If Pfeiffer seals the deal, she will play a queen in the movie, joining Jolie, who will reprise her role as Maleficent, and Ed Skrein, who will play a villainous character. She will also work with Elle Fanning who will return as Aurora.

Jez Butterworth has been tapped to rewrite the script written by Lina Woolverton, a scriptwriter for the first installment. Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster wrote the most recent draft. "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" director Joachin Ronning has been tapped to helm the sequel. Meanwhile, Joe Roth returns as producer.

Although all scriptwriters have been revealed, details of the story are still kept under wraps. It is also still unclear what the movie will tell after the first movie ended with Aurora becoming the queen. If Pfeiffer took the role of the queen whom Fanning played in the first movie, then the upcoming "Maleficent" will presumably be set years after the first movie.

"Maleficent" earned $175.5 million in its opening weekend. It grossed $517.2 million internationally and scored a worldwide total of $758.5 million against a budget of $180 million. This made it the fourth-highest-grossing movie in 2014.

It was reported that "Maleficent 2" would start filming this spring and was expected to hit U.S. theaters sometime in 2019.
