The complicated relationship between Jolie's titular character and Elle Fanning's Princess Aurora is tested when Pfeiffer's Queen Ingrith causes a rift between them.

AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie is back as the evil witch in the first teaser trailer for Disney's "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil". The video opens with a look at the enchanting world of Moors while the narrator tells the story of the horned fairy.
In present day, Maleficent (Jolie) and Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning) are invited to the castle to meet Aurora's soon-to-be in-laws. Tension erupts between Maleficent and Aurora's future mother-in-law Queen Ingrith (Michelle Pfeiffer) as the former seems to challenge the latter.
"There are many who prey on the innocent. I'm sure your kind would agree," Maleficent tells the Queen. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you were making a threat," Queen Ingrith replies. Maleficent is seen joining the feast and unleashing her power that hurts some people in the castle, causing Aurora to look shocked and disappointed at her.
In another scene, Aurora freezes as she looks up to the sky. Hundreds of birds are flying near the castle and red smokes fill the air, before Maleficent goes into full battle mode.
According to the official plot description, "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" is a fantasy adventure that picks up several years after "Maleficent", in which audiences learned of the events that hardened the heart of Disney's most notorious villain and drove her to curse a baby Princess Aurora. The film continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the Moors and the magical creatures that reside within.
Maleficent and Aurora's complicated relationship will be tested when Prince Phillip (Harris Dickinson) asks for Aurora's hand in marriage and brings her to meet his mother, Queen Ingrith, who will cause a rift between Maleficent and Aurora. "The queen is a smart woman, which makes her formidable, and that's fun," Jolie previously said of her on-screen adversary.
Fanning added of her character's relationship with her guardian, "Aurora and Maleficent love each other so much, but there is a huge divide between them. Maleficent is still a little wary of the humans, and Aurora is dealing with a burden of coming into a new life to be this cookie-cutter royal, which is not what Aurora is."
Jolie further teased that the film "will give audiences not just the characters they know but also a new, surprising world."
Directed by Joachim Ronning from a story by Linda Woolverton and a screenplay by Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster, the movie is set to hit theaters in the U.S. on October 18.
