Life only gets worse for Emily after she's sent to the Colonies, while Moira still can't escape Gilead though she has made it to Canada.

AceShowbiz - With only less than two weeks before "The Handmaid's Tale" returns for a second season, a new look at the new installment has made its way out online. Released by Entertainment Weekly, the photos mostly highlight Elisabeth Moss' Offred, Alexis Bledel's Emily and Samira Wiley's Moira.

While Offred still wears her Handmaid outfit, Moira who has made it to Canada ditches the red dress and trades it for a purple blanket scarf. Though so, she can't truly escape Gilead. "The place changes you no matter what you try to do," Moss explains. "In the case of Moira you have been changed forever."

Wiley chimes in, "This season you see a real three dimensional and complex woman." She adds, "That's not always a given in television - to see all of these colors in one woman, and not only a woman, but a black, gay woman. She's every f***ing minority you can think of! Which I know a little something about."

As for Emily a.k.a. Ofglen who is sent to the Colonies, life seems to get worse. She's forced to do hard labor at the radioactive wasteland, looking tired with dirty clothes. "Poor Emily," Bledel says with a sigh. "Just when you think it can't get worse...."

In another photo, Emily seems to be taken aback when she unexpectedly encounters her Red Center cohort Janine (Madeline Brewer), who appears to be too eager when seeing Emily, while another woman is dragging Janine away. It seems that Janine is also sent to the Colonies.

Revealing details of the second season, EW reports that there's an act of terrorism that happens nearly halfway through the second season that will change absolutely everything. "When you have this kind of world with these kinds of rules, there will be an uprising," executive producer Warren Littlefield teases. "The consequences will be devastating for both sides."

Additionally, there will be a surprising confrontation between Moira and Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and the Waterfords (Joseph Fiennes and Yvonne Strahovski), who arrive in Canada on a diplomatic mission.

Moss then gushes, "This season is 100 times more complicated and bigger than season 1. I was like....ooof, people think the first season was dark! But we definitely pushed the envelope this year and there's definitely a couple of things that people are going to have a really hard time watching."

Adapted from Margaret Atwood's critically-acclaimed 1985 novel, the first season of "The Handmaid's Tale" ended with Offred, born June, getting pregnant and being taken away in a Gilead-controlled van. She headed either to dire punishment for a rebellion or to freedom.

The 13-episode season 2 will arrive on April 25 on Hulu.
