The episode, in which the Riverdale High students are singing and dancing for a stage production of 'Carrie: The Musical', will air on April 18.

AceShowbiz - The first look at the upcoming musical episode of "Riverdale" has found its way out online. Coming via Entertainment Weekly, the photos see the Riverdale High students dancing and singing for a stage production of "Carrie: The Musical".

The first photo sees Cheryl Blossom's (Madelaine Petsch) Carrie White taking front and center. She is featured holding hands in circle with other characters including Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendez), who is playing cruel bully Chris Hargensen in the musical.

Another photo offers a look at the stage's director Kevin Keller (Casey Cott). Donning a navy sweater and brown pants, he is seen sitting beside his assistant Fangs Fogarty (Drew Ray Tanner). Fans are also offered a look at Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart) and Archie Andrews' (KJ Apa) characters on the musical. Archie is playing Tommy Ross, while Betty is portraying nice girl Sue Snell.

While most of the main characters on the show have big roles on the musical, unsurprisingly, Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) will not be participating in the stage. Instead of belting notes and dancing, he will be shooting a behind-the-scenes documentary.

Based on the 1974 debut novel by Stephen King, "Carrie: The Musical" follows an unpopular girl who comes home from being bullied at high school only to face equally terrible abuse at the hands of her religious zealot of a mother. Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) is playing the mother.

First Broadway stage of the novel debuted in 1988, though it didn't work well as it was one of the biggest flops in Broadway history. However, a 2012 off-Broadway revival of the series turned the table, making the musical into a hit. Later in 1976 and 2013, the novel was adapted into two films. A TV series of the novel debuted in 2009.

"Riverdale" season 2 is airing on Wednesdays at 8 P.M. on The CW. Meanwhile, the musical episode is scheduled to air on April 18.
