The ambassador tells the New Zealand songstress that her performance in the country 'could have spread the message that solutions come from engagement that leads to compromise and cooperation.'

AceShowbiz - It appears that Israeli fans are not the only ones who are upset over Lorde's decision to cancel her upcoming show in the country. Israel's ambassador to New Zealand wrote on Facebook on December 27 an open letter to the singer, inviting her to a meeting.

"It is regrettable that you have canceled your concert in Tel Aviv and have disappointed all your fans in Israel," Dr. Itzhak Gerberg wrote, adding that her concert in Israel "could have spread the message that solutions come from constructive engagement that leads to compromise and cooperation. Music should unite not divide and your performance in Israel could have contributed to the spirit of hope and peace in the Middle East."

"Boycott and hate on the other hand, represents hostility and intolerance," he continued. "And I was sorry to see you have succumbed to the supporters of a small fanatic group of BDS (Boycott, Divest and Sanction) movement that denies the right of the state of Israeli to exist and spreads hatred and animosity."

He concluded his letter by inviting the New Zealand native to meet him in person, so they could discuss "Israel, its achievement and its role as the only democracy in the Middle East." Meanwhile, Lorde has not responded to the ambassador's letter.

Lorde canceled her upcoming show in Tel Aviv, Israel after two New Zealand writers warned her that her performance in the country "will be seen as giving support to the policies of the Israeli government."

In a statement that was shared through the organizers of the event, Lorde stated that she "had a lot of discussion with people holding many views, and I think the right decision at this time is to cancel the show." She added, "I had done a lot of reading and sought a lot of opinions before deciding to book a show in Tel Aviv, but I'm not too proud to admit I didn't make the right call on this one."
