Selena Gomez's Billboard's Woman of the Year Title Is Disputed as Many Root for Ariana Grande

Many people believe that the 'Bang Bang' songstress deserves the title more as she raised nearly 3 million euros for families affected by Manchester's attack.

AceShowbiz - Billboard has named Selena Gomez as its 2017 Woman of the Year, but it seems most people don't agree with its decision. The news outlet has posted on Instagram a picture of the singer, captioning it with "Woman crush of the year. #womeninmusic." Social media users soon commented on the post, saying that Ariana Grande deserves the title more than Selena.

Many people believed that the "Into You" singer deserves the title more as she raised nearly 3 million euros for the families of Manchester attack's victims. One wrote, "I'm not even a fan of Ariana but this woman is even too qualified for such an award. After everything she did for Manchester? The bravery she had to go back and perform, giving all the proceeds to those who were affected by the tragedy."

One other similarly said, "let's not ignore the fact that Ariana held the biggest concert in history that more than half a million attended and all the money goes to the families affected by the tragedy in Manchester. She responded to terrorism with grace, courage and love. THAT is MY woman of the year."

Another said that Selena doesn't deserve the title as all she had done was getting a kidney transplant from her friend Francia Raisa. "This is so bulls**t! What did she even do apart from getting a new kidney?" an Instagram user commented.

However, some Selenators have come to Selena's defense, listing all the reasons why the former Disney darling deserved the award. "Selena have achieved so much more this yesterday," a fan of Selena wrote. "Don't forget about '13 Reasons Why' and her new movies."

Neither Selena nor Ariana has responded to the controversy.

Selena will be presented with the award at the 2017 Billboard's Women in Music, which will be held on November 30. She will join a prestigious league of previous winners including Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift, Pink and last year's winner Madonna.
