"Shameless" star Ethan Cutkosky ran into trouble with the law off set. The actor, best known for his role as Carl Gallagher on the long-running Showtime series, was busted for allegedly driving under the influence last Wednesday near Los Angeles.

Burbank police Sgt. John Pfrommer tells The Associated Press the 18-year-old was driving an orange BMW and was pulled over on Wednesday night, November 1, after being spotted straddling traffic lines. Sources say Ethan did poorly on field sobriety test and arrested on the spot.

TMZ reports that police officers smelled marijuana in the car during the stop and Ethan allegedly admitted he had been smoking weed. He was booked for misdemeanor DUI and was released on Thursday morning on $5,000 bail. His blood-alcohol tests are still pending, Pfrommer says.

A rep for Ethan has not commented on the arrest.

Ethan started his acting career in 2003, when he was still 4 years old. He landed his first film role in a 2007 Christmas comedy, "Fred Claus", starring Vince Vaughn. He also worked with Gary Oldman in "The Unborn" (2009) and starred in independent thriller "Conviction" (2010) alongside Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell.

He has been playing Carl Gallagher, the second-youngest Gallagher child, on "Shameless" since the first season. The black dramedy, which is currently in its eights season, also stars William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum.
