The 27-year-old singer reportedly decided to pull a no-show at the event in the last minutes because of 'concert fatigue' following his extensive tour dates.

Since MTV announced that The Weeknd was added to 2017 MTV Video Music Awards performer lineup, the Canadian singer had been one of the most anticipated acts at the event, where he was also nominated in five categories. Unfortunately, he ended up pulling a no-show.

According to TMZ, the "Starboy" hitmaker bailed on the show for a very simple reason; "he just didn't feel like it." He allegedly didn't attend the show because of "concert fatigue" after a lengthy run of his "Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour". The grueling tour schedule was said to make him "just felt differently in the days before the show."

Similarly, The Weeknd's girlfriend Selena Gomez also didn't attend the VMAs, but she had a solid reason for her absence. During an interview a week before the event, the "Bad Liar" hitmaker said, "I don't know if I will [go to the VMAs]. I might be shooting but I cannot believe I got nominated, which is really cool, and I'm very upset that I won't be there."

It wasn't the first time The Weeknd pulled a no-show. On August 25, the singer canceled his gig at a Grey Goose function in downtown Los Angeles. Grey Goose issued a statement, saying, "Due to unforeseen production issues, tonight's event has been canceled. That said, Grey Goose and The Weeknd will be back together soon--bigger and better!"

The Weeknd just wrapped up phase one of his tour in support of "Starboy" last month. Next week, he is set to hit the road again for the second phase of the tour, which will kick off in University Park on September 6. Supported by Nav and special guests Gucci Mane and French Montana on some dates, the extensive tour is slated to conclude on December 14 in Perth, Australia.
