Serena Williams temporarily hangs up her tennis racquet. The world No. 1 tennis player is taking the rest of the year off hot on heels of her pregnancy announcement. Her representative confirms the hiatus to New York Times.
Williams, 35, is 20 weeks along. It's her first child with fiance Alexis Ohanian. The athlete and the Reddit co-founder have been together since 2015. He popped the big question in a romantic proposal in Rome in December 2016.
The mom-to-be last played a match at the Australian Open in January. She won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title back then. She plans to return to the tennis court in 2018. "I'm elated for her; I've seen her with our son, and she will be a great mother," her friend and fellow tennis player Andy Roddick said.
On Instagram, the pregnant star quoted Uncle Ben from Spider-Man, "With great power comes great responsibility."
