Author Jay Asher reveals that he wants to see a sequel of Netflix's adaptation of his best-selling YA novel as he mentions that he wants 'a continuation of all those characters.'

Some think a season 2 for Netflix's adaption of Jay Asher's best-selling YA novel "13 Reasons Why" may lose the core of its original purpose, which tells a story about Hannah Baker's (Katherine Langford) suicide. However, some fans are still hoping for it and apparently Asher is one of those who wants the heartbreaking series to get a second season.

"I'd just like a continuation of all those characters," the author tells Entertainment Weekly. He adds, "I'm curious as well. What happens to Clay (Dylan Minnette)? How do people react to what Alex (Miles Heizer) did at the very end? What's going to happen to Mr. Porter (Derek Luke)? I'd thought of a sequel at some point." The author reveals that although he's brainstormed it, he decides that he will not write a sequel for the novel. However, he admits that he wants to see a second season.

Should Netflix decide to give the series a sophomore season, the stories may center on the other characters other than Hannah. Hannah's story is practically over in the final episode of the series, but a few of the characters' storylines were left open-ended.

"Things weren't left open in the hopes of a sequel… There is no end for the characters left behind," Asher explains the intention behind the final episode of the season. "Every action we have is going to have repercussions in ways we could not anticipate. You realize that with not just what Hannah did, but also how other people treated Tyler (Devin Druid) throughout it. It's the whole message of the book. Of course, there's obviously ways to go with a second season if they do that," he continues.

When asked whether there will or not be the second season, Asher declines to give a further detail. "I'm not allowed to say either way if there is or is not a second season," he says.

Asher, however, is standing firm not to write a sequel to his book. But he gives a green-light if Netflix is planning to make a second season and continue the story on its own. "You can explore that world further in a different medium," he says, before adding, "And the book will still be able to be itself. I don't think the show is affecting what the book is saying."

Also starring Kate Walsh, Ross Butler, Alisha Boe, Justin Prentice, Christian Navarro and Brandon Flynn, Selena Gomez-exec produced "13 Reasons Why" season 1 is now available for streaming on Netflix.
