Louis Tomlinson was arrested on Friday night, March 3. The One Direction member was reportedly involved in a physical altercation with a paparazzo at the baggage claim of Los Angeles International Airport.
Louis was arriving at LAX with his girlfriend Eleanor Calder when he allegedly pulled a male photographer, who stood too close to the couple, to the floor by his legs. The photographer allegedly fell backwards and struck his head on the floor.
The altercation reportedly didn't end there. Louis' girlfriend was leaving when a female witness started recording her. They later got into a physical altercation. Both the photographer and the witness made citizens' arrests.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Louis was "surrounded by paparazzi" in the baggage claim area. After "one of the paparazzi fell and he claimed he hurt himself," Tomlinson was placed under citizen arrest. The incident happened at 11:45 P.M. PT.
Louis was arrested for simple battery and booked at a nearby LAPD jail on early Saturday and released nearly an hour later. He is due in court on March 29.
Louis' lawyer Martin Singer explained the incident in a statement, "The paparazzi provoked and caused an altercation that occurred with Louis at the airport this morning. This is not the first or last time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity. While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during the incident and he came to her defense."
