The British singer describes the song as 'a declaration of intent, mixing hip-hop with a chorus that addresses the trials of his life and career and his status in the industry.'

AceShowbiz - Before Ed Sheeran officially releases his highly-anticipated album "Divide (division sign)" on Friday, March 3, the British heartthrob debuts a new song in a live session for SBTV. Titled "Eraser", the rap-infused song is the fourth cut from the record, following "Shape of You", "Castle on the Hill" and "How Would You Feel (Paean)".

Sheeran began his performance by pointing out that it's been seven years since he debuted his song "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" on the U.K. urban music channel. Backed only by his acoustic guitar, he sang the song which lyrics are pretty personal to him. "I was born inside a small town, I lost that state of mind/ Learned to sing inside the Lord's house, but stopped at the age of nine/ I forget when I get awards now the wave I had to ride," he sings.

Elsewhere on the guitar-heavy song, the "Thinking Out Loud" hitmaker looks back on his life with wishful regret. "And I wish that I'd never took that first line/ And I wish that every word in this verse rhymed/ But forgive me if it doesn't/ I wish that I could make peace with my older cousin/ I wish he didn't think that it was me when it wasn't."

Sheeran first talked about "Eraser" when he dropped by "The Breakfast Club". When asked if he would rap on one track off the upcoming album, he said, "On one song I have actually, yeah. [On the] first track of the album. I wasn't and then, I felt like it was missing it." He described the track as "a declaration of intent, mixing hip-hop with a chorus of layered vocals that introduces the album and addresses the trials of his life and career and his status in the industry."

Earlier this week, Sheeran joined Jimmy Fallon and The Roots in Monday's episode of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" for a performance of his smash single "Shape of You". Instead of using guitar, the British singer opted for a banana shaker, while the host handled a mini Casio keyboard. The performance was part of the show's "Classroom Instruments" series, which kicked off in 2012 with Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe".
