The director expresses his thoughts via his Twitter account, wishing he could turn back the time and make Joker the movie's main antagonist.

Despite all the bucks "Suicide Squad" has earned, director David Ayer seemingly isn't really happy with certain decision he made for the movie. The supervillain flick received poor reviews last year, and Ayer suggests that it might be because he had set the wrong main antagonist. Via his Twitter account, Ayer expresses his wish to turn back the time to make Joker the movie's big bad.
"Wish I had a time machine," Ayer writes. "I'd make the Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. I have to take the good and bad and learn from it." In "Suicide Squad", the main antagonist was Cara Delevingne's The Enchantress instead of Jared Leto's Joker.
"I love making movies and I love DC," Ayer adds. "I'm a High School dropout and used to paint houses for a living. I'm lucky to have the job I have. I have to give the characters the stories and plots they deserve next time. Real talk. (And no, there isn't a secret edit of the film with a bunch of Joker scenes hidden in a salt mine somewhere.)"

Ayer's words are in contrast with Leto's statement last August. At that time, Leto said in an interview that there were so many Joker scenes in "Suicide Squad" getting cut. He expressed his disappointment by saying, "Were there any that didn't get cut? I'm asking you, were there any that didn't get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn't even start," said Leto.
Fans hope that Ayer can learn from his mistake and do better for his upcoming movie "Gotham City Sirens". The "Suicide Squad" spin-off, in which Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn, is currently in early stages of development. The production will reportedly start in summer 2017.
