Aya Ueto is a multifaceted Japanese entertainer who has achieved remarkable success as an actress, singer, and television personality, becoming one of the most recognizable and beloved figures in Japanese pop culture. Born on September 14, 1985, Ueto’s journey to stardom began at the age of twelve when she participated in the seventh Japan Bish?jo Contest in 1997, winning the special jury prize. This breakthrough led her to join the talent agency Oscar Promotion, where she began intensive training in singing, dancing, and acting. In 1999, she formed the girl group Z-1 alongside three fellow contest winners, but the group disbanded in 2002. That same year, Ueto launched her solo music career by signing with Pony Canyon and releasing her debut single, "Pureness," which set the stage for her to release five studio albums and produce ten Oricon top-ten singles.

Ueto made her acting debut at the age of thirteen in the 1999 thriller Satsujinsha: Killer of Paraiso, but it was her role in the sixth season of the TBS drama 3-nen B-gumi Kinpachi-sensei in 2001 that brought her critical acclaim. Her portrayal of a high school student grappling with gender dysphoria earned widespread praise and opened doors to numerous leading roles and lucrative advertising endorsements. By 2004, Ueto had become the face of multiple brands, and she has held the annual title of CM Queen five times since then, a testament to her immense commercial appeal. Her acting prowess was further recognized with two Television Drama Academy Awards: Best Actress for her performance in the sports drama series Ace o Nerae! in 2004 and Best Supporting Actress for her role in the human drama Nagareboshi in 2010. She continued to captivate audiences in high-profile television projects, including the remake of Attention Please in 2006, the banking drama Hanzawa Naoki in 2013, and the series Hirugao: Love Affairs in the Afternoon in 2014.

On the big screen, Ueto made a powerful impact as the lead in Ryuhei Kitamura’s 2003 blockbuster Azumi, a role that earned her a nomination for a Japan Academy Award for Best Actress. She reprised her role in the sequel Azumi 2: Death or Love in 2005 and later starred in the 2012 film adaptation of Mari Yamazaki’s manga series Thermae Romae. In 2017, she appeared in the feature film adaptation of the drama series Hirugao. Throughout her career, Ueto has balanced her work as a singer, actress, and television personality, maintaining a steady presence in the Japanese entertainment industry and continuing to be a beloved figure to fans across the country.
