AceShowbiz - Canadian rapper Drake keeps dominating the music industry this year. The 30-year-old spitter has just set a new record as he became the first artist to reach one billion plays on music streaming giant Spotify with his smash hit "One Dance".

The song has been popular throughout 2016. Though it is no longer ruling the charts, it is still being played constantly. According to Billboard, the track now stands at 1.001 billion streams on Spotify alone, and that number still continues rising quickly. In addition to the billion streams, the song has sold millions of copies and been certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA.

"One Dance" previously stole the title of the most-played song ever on Spotify back in October, when it surpassed Major Lazer's smash hit "Lean On" featuring MO. At the time, Drake's song had around 880 million plays. It only took less than two months for the song to collect the additional 120 million. Overall, the track, which was released online in April, only needs less than nine months to cross one billion mark.

This isn't the first time Drizzy has reached a billion plays on a music streaming service. Previously, his fourth studio album "Views" became the first album to earn more than a billion streams on Apple Music back in September. Earlier this month, he also took all three top spots on Apple Music's year-end chart. His "Views" nudges out Rihanna's "ANTI", Adele's "25", Frank Ocean's "Blonde" and Justin Bieber's "Purpose" to lead Apple's Top 25 Albums chart.
