Ever since "Westworld" introduced the Man in Black, viewers can't help wondering who he really is. Some fans speculate that the character played by Ed Harris is actually an older version of William (Jimmi Simpson).

Responding to this theory, Simpson tells The Hollywood Reporter, "First of all, I'm just flattered, because that man is so bad ass." He then coyly adds, "Second of all, I can't comment on anything. I wish I could say how wrong or right you are, but you guys have to wait just like we did."

Meanwhile, the latest episode of "Westworld" revealed more about the Man in Black's backstory. Two guests, who recognized him from the outside world, approached him and one of them said the Man in Black's foundation saved his sister's life. The Man in Black responded by saying that he's on vacation and told them to shut up or he would slit their throats if they kept talking to him.

Another fan theory suggests that the Man in Black is Arnold, the supposedly deceased co-founder of Westworld. But the Man in Black is convinced that Arnold secretly hid a "final story" for him to find.

The show's producer Lisa Joy tells EW about the mysterious villain, "Our sympathies are so aligned with the hosts, it's easy to think of the Man in Black as absolute black evil with a wry smile. For him, he's looking at this as just a game and he's an expert-level gamer. Just like a life-saving doctor can play Grand Theft Auto really violently doesn't mean he can't be a wonderful doctor and parent outside that world."

"Westworld" returns with the new episode, "Contrapasso", on Sunday, October 30 at 9 P.M. on HBO. In a preview for the said outing, Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) comes face to face with the Man in Black and asks what he hopes to find.

The official synopsis reads, "Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), William and Logan (Ben Barnes) reach Pariah, a town built on decadence and transgression -- and are recruited for a dangerous mission. The Man in Black meets an unlikely ally in his search to unlock the maze."
