Legendary and Warner Bros. may have found the perfect scribes for "Godzilla 2". According to Variety, Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields, the writing duo of last year's Christmas horror flick "Krampus", are attached to pen the screenplay for the follow-up to 2014's "Godzilla", which starred Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Johnson.

It's also reported that the studios might be setting up a writers room to help create the upcoming Godzilla/King Kong crossover, "Godzilla vs. Kong", which is also in developments for a May 29, 2020 release. The mighty king of the jungle will first appear in "Kong: Skull Island" due out March 10, 2017 before the showdown with the monstrous lizard.

The first "Godzilla" movie, which was directed by Gareth Edwards, grossed more than $520 million at the box office, with the majority of that coming from international audiences. However, it was reported back in May that Edwards quit the sequel.

While a director has yet to be announced to replace Edwards, "Godzilla 2" is scheduled to be released U.S. theaters on March 22, 2019. No additional information is available regarding the start date of the production, but Alex Garcia will oversee the project for Legendary.
