Marc Jacobs helped bring the New York Fashion Week to a close with some controversy. The designer ended up getting blasted online after he sent the likes of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid down the runway in colorful dreadlocks.
Some other famous faces including Bella Hadid, Jourdan Dunn, Adriana Lima, Sara Sampaio and Irina Shayk were also part of the fashion show. They all modeled Marc Jacobs' spring 2017 collection while sporting the hairstyle, prompting many people to call out the designer for cultural appropriation.
"Did Marc Jacobs really just build a whole fashion show around cultural appropriation? wow," a Twitter user wrote. "why couldn't marc jacobs hire black models with actual dreads instead of using fake dreads on white people," another user complained.

However, hairstylist for the show, Guido Palau, has denied that the hairstyle was inspired by the black culture. He said the look was inspired by trans director Lana Wachowski, who recently starred in one of Marc Jacobs' campaigns, as well as "certain types of cultures, like rave culture, club culture, acid house, Boy George and Marilyn."
This is hardly Marc Jacobs' first time to have been accused of cultural appropriation. The designer also received multiple criticisms after making white models wear Bantu knots at his spring 2015 show. His people at the time said the hairstyle was inspired by musician Bjork.
