After a first look at Ian McShane's Mr. Wednesday, Ricky Whittle's Shadow Moon and Pablo Schreiber's Mad Sweeney was released online, we now get the first glimpse of Gillian Anderson on "American Gods". Posted on Twitter on Thursday, June 30 by the actress, it offers a blurry look at Anderson channeling Marilyn Monroe.

"We'll be telling this story. #Media @AmericanGodsSTZ," so she captioned it. The "X-Files" star portrays Media, a New God who thrives off attention and takes the form of various celebrities and pop culture icons, most memorably appearing as a foul-mouthed Lucille Ball.

The image was apparently taken during the filming of her second scene as showrunner Bryan Fuller teased on Wednesday, "TODAY @GillianA FILMS HER SECOND APPEARANCE AS MEDIA ON @AmericanGodsSTZ - GUESS WHICH POP CULTURE ICON SHE MANIFESTS AS THIS TIME."

Based on Neil Gaiman's contemporary fantasy novel that has won Hugo and Nebula Awards, the story follows Shadow Moon, an ex-con who becomes bodyguard for Mr. Wednesday, a con man but in reality one of the older gods who travels across America to gather American manifestations of the Old Gods of ancient mythology to prepare for a battle against the New American Gods.

The cast also includes Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith, Peter Stormare as Czernobog, Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy, Demore Barnes as Mr. Ibis, and Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya. The series is slated to premiere on Starz in 2017.
