The singer, who has had limited acting experiences before, may fulfill director Matthew Vaughn's longtime dream of having him in his movie.

"Kingsman: The Golden Circle" is close to nabbing Elton John as one of the cast members. It's unclear at the moment what role the "Rocket Man" singer will play in the sequel of "Kingsman: The Secret Service" but THR pointed out that he might be playing himself.

Although prominent in doing voice-overs and soundtracks for movies and televisions, John has very few experience in acting in front of the camera. His involvement in the "Kingsman" franchise has been long thought for by Matthew Vaughn. The director had wanted him to appear in the first movie.

"I was umming and ahhing 'cause it had a whole fun subplot about celebrities being kidnapped. And I had an idea of, who's the worst celebrity you'd want to have locked in a cell? And I came up with Elton John, and having Elton John throwing these huge tantrums. And then I wanted to do an action scene of Elton John kicking the living daylights out of people," Vaughn told ABC News Radio last year.

But the plan was eventually scrapped. "First of all, the celebrities said no. And then I just got uncomfortable with, how do you have celebrities playing themselves, opposite famous actors playing another role? The suspension of disbelief suddenly becomes harder to pull off," Vaughn explained.

Vaughn is directing the second movie with Taron Egerton stepping up as the lead actor. There's a rumor that Colin Firth, whose character Harry Hart died in the first film, will pop up in "The Golden Circle" in some way. A poster of the movie says, "Reports on my death have been greatly exaggerated", and displays Hart's signature sunglasses.

Egerton will be supported in the sequel by Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, Julianne Moore and returning cast Mark Strong. "The Golden Circle" continues to follow Eggsy (Egerton) who teams up with Kingsman's American counterpart, The Statesman, after the British spy organization was destroyed.

Principal photography is set to begin in London. Vaughn is directing from the script he co-wrote with Jane Goldman.
