David Bowie's son approved of Lorde's performance to pay homage to David Bowie at the recent BRIT Awards. Duncan Jones took it to Twitter to praise the tribute, "Finally found the links to tonight's Brits. Just ... beautiful. Thank you."

Bowie was feted with the Brit Icon Award at the event. Annie Lennox and Gary Oldman gave speech and accepted the trophy on the late musician's behalf before Lorde joined the music icon's backing band from his 2003 A Reality Tour.

Oldman introduced Lorde as an artist Bowie called "the future of music." The performance kicked off with Bowie's "Space Oddity" recording before the band did an instrumental medley of his hits. Lorde later took the stage to deliver her rendition of "Life on Mars?".

"I was so nervous in the wings, and then i whispered to myself 'just sing it to david', and nothing else mattered," Lorde wrote on Twitter after the show. "Also, performing with bowie's brilliant touring band - including the inimitable @mikegarson who played DB's keys since the 70s! - was unreal."

David Bowie was also honored at the Grammy Awards earlier this month. Lady GaGa was on hands for the tribute performance. Duncan Jones dissed the Mother Monster following the event. Without mentioning her name, the "Warcraft" director tweeted the Oxford dictionary definition of the word "gaga." He wrote, " 'overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused.' Damn it! What IS that word!?"
