Joe Biden is going to make a surprise appearance at the upcoming 88th annual Academy Awards. The Vice President is expected to introduce Lady GaGa who is scheduled to perform her nominated song "Til It Happens to You" from the documentary about campus rape "The Hunting Ground".
Biden is rumored to attend the biggest night in movie with his wife Jill Biden. The VP who drafted the Violence Against Women Act as a senator will use the opportunity to raise awareness of sexual assault and promote the White House's "It's On Us" campaign from the Obama administration.
Lady GaGa herself is a survivor of sexual assault. She recently told The Associated Press, "It's something in my life that's always really kind of defined me up until this point. In a strange way I feel like it won't define me anymore after I sing it on TV at the Oscars, if I can let it go maybe."
She explained why this Oscar nomination was "extra-special" for her. "They really and truly nominated the issue of sexual assault on campuses. ... People all over the world that have suffered with any kind of pain or trauma, (if) they are having trouble being brave, this song is for them," she said.
