However, Gossip Cop has debunked the rumor, saying that the two did not split because they didn't even have a special relationship.
The split rumor came from HollywoodLife.com, which claimed that the two had "cooled" off their romance. The site's source said, "The reason why everything cooled was because Selena didn't want to take anything further. Niall really was happy when they hooked up but now realizes it was a drunk hookup night that didn't do anything more because Selena didn't want it." The site also stated that Niall was "not heartbroken, just disappointed."
However, the site clarified that Selena had no interest to have a romantic relationship with Niall and she had declared that she didn't want to commit to anything beyond friendship with the One Direction member.
Selena first sparked dating rumors with Niall after they were spotted having dinner together in Malibu in last November. In early December 2015, the two were reportedly seen making out at Jenna Dewan-Tatum's 35th birthday. They were later seen together again at Santa Monica Pier.
