'X-Men: Apocalypse' and 'Independence Day: Resurgence' Super Bowl Spots Tease End of the World

Watch the destruction caused by the titular villain Apocalypse and aliens on Earth in the ads for the new 'X-Men' and 'Independence Day' movies.

AceShowbiz - During Super Bowl 50 telecast on Sunday, February 7, "X-Men: Apocalypse" and "Independence Day: Resurgence" released new ads that have a similar theme. Both TV spots highlight an impending doom on Earth and the actions taken by the movies' heroes to prevent it.

In "X-Men: Apocalypse", the titular villain is the main perpetrator as he aims to "destroy this world." "Everything they've built will fall," Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) claims, but our beloved mutants won't give up without a fight. "Let's go to war," says Jennifer Lawrence's Raven, who is later seen being choked by Apocalypse.

The "Independence Day: Resurgence" ad, meanwhile, sees alien invasion that begins during a football game. "What goes up must come down," says Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson, as he witnesses the return of the aliens.

"X-Men: Apocalypse", starring Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult and many others, is directed by Bryan Singer. The conflict begins when the titular big villain awakens after thousands of year, asking his Four Horsemen, Magneto, Storm, Psylocke and Anger (Ben Hardy), to help him initiate an epic annihilation in order to vanish humanity and take over the world. It is slated arrive in U.S. theaters on May 27.

"Independence Day: Resurgence" takes place 20 years after the events in the first film, 1996's "Independence Day". Goldblum%, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch and Brent Spiner are among the returning stars, while Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King and Sela Ward join the cast in new roles. The sci-fi movie will be released Stateside on June 24.
