Sarah Michelle Gellar may reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil on "Cruel Intentions" series reboot. According to Deadline, producers has approached the 38-year-old actress about joining the series reboot as Kathryn. The "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star is reportedly reading the script.

NBC's "Cruel Intentions" comes from the film's writer-director Roger Kumble and producer Neal H. Moritz. The pair were joined by Lindsey Rosin and Jordan Ross, the duo behind the "The Unauthorized Musical Parody Of Cruel Intentions", whose staging at Los Angeles' Rockwell Table & Stage back in May generated buzz. Kumble, Gellar and co-stars Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair all attended the musical.

Sony Pictures TV, whose sibling Columbia Pictures produced the 1999 drama with Moritz's Original Film, is producing the TV adaptation alongside Original Film and AMBI.

Gellar has only agreed to two series, including "The Crazy Ones" and "Ringer", since the end of "Buffy".

The networks and studios have been developing series adaptation of popular movies on the rise with original star on the show. Bradley Cooper is reprising his role from "Limitless" on the CBS series. CBS' proposed "Beverly Hills Cop" follow-up series had Eddie Murphy attached to recur. Ethan Hawke is in negotiations to potentially reprising his Oscar-nominated role on "Training Day".
