King Louie a.k.a. King L survived being shot in the head on Wednesday afternoon, December 23. According to his management and Chicago Police, the rapper was shot while riding in a car in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
Louie was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition had stabilized, police said. According to a representative from the rapper's management team, the 27-year-old rapper is "awake and talking." Further details were not immediately available.
Fellow hip-hop artists like Chance The Rapper and Pusha T offered their support for Louie on social media after hearing the shocking news. Chance wrote on Twitter, "I believe in the power of prayer and I believe my brother Louie gone be ok. Send prayers to him in his battle." Pusha, meanwhile, tweeted, "Whoa...I didn't know @KingL got shot, no disrespect, i just saw where he tweeted me and was showing love to my nigga... #Prayers."
Louie recently joined Chicago's "Put the Guns Down" project, which aimed at ending gun violence throughout the city, along with Common, Lil Herb and The Twilite Tone. The rapper, who is credited for coining the terms "Chiraq" and the creation of "Drillnois", released his latest song "F**k Spike Lee" on December 4, the same day "Chi-Raq" premiered in U.S. theaters.
