Fans of deceased Turkish singer Ahmet Kaya claim Adele's song is a rip-off of his 1985 song 'Acilara Tutunmak' (or 'Clinging to Pain').

Adele is accused of plagiarizing a deceased Turkish singer named Ahmet Kaya for one of the tracks of her latest album "25". Fans of Ahmet claim "Million Years Ago" is a rip-off of his 1985 song titled "Acilara Tutunmak" (or "Clinging to Pain").

Critics say "Million Years Ago" bears resemblance to Ahmet's tune. Some social media users accuse Adele of "stealing" the melancholic tune from the Turkish singer, who died in France exile back in 2000. "Adele has stolen a song from us," Esra Nur Aydogan wrote alongside a picture of a man hanging a Turkish flag on his balcony in protest. The posting has been removed now.

Ahmet's widow Gulten Kaya, however, doubts Adele stole the song from her late husband, saying it was unlikely for a global star like her to do such a thing. "However, if she consciously did it, then it would be theft," Gulten tells Turkish daily Posta.

In an interview with Anadolu news agency, Turkish music critic Naim Dilmener agrees that there are some similarities between the two songs but "not too much." "[Ahmet's song is] an easy tune to figure out," Naim explains, "I don't think Adele listened to Ahmet Kaya's song and copied it deliberately."

Adele's representative hasn't commented on the issue yet.

The controversy has been compared to Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin' " copyright infringement case. Beyonce Knowles' husband was accused of stealing flute samples from late Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez' 1957 song "Khosara" for "Big Pimpin' ". Jay-Z won the case in October after a judge ruled that the plaintiff didn't have the right to seek a claim of copyright infringement.
