Some up-and-coming actors and actresses will be testing for some lead roles, the Black, Red and Pink Rangers.

AceShowbiz - With a bunch of projects running, Lionsgate is moving forward with one of its potential films originated from kids' TV series, "Power Rangers". According to Variety, the studio has begun the search for who will portray the new members of the titular team.

Some up-and-coming actors and actresses will be testing for some lead roles. Sources say Daniel Zovatto ("It Follows"), Ross Butler ("Chasing Life") and Brian Marc are among the candidates to portray Zack a.k.a. the Black Ranger. KJ Apa ("Shortland Street"), Austin Butler ("The Shannara Chronicles") and Mitchell Hope ("The Descendants") are up to play Jason a.k.a. the Red Ranger, while Naomi Scott ("The Martian") and newcomer Stefanie Scott are in contention for the role of Kimberley a.k.a. the Pink Ranger.

The studio reportedly looks for fresh faces to make up the team and will probably eye a famous actor or actress to play an antagonist character for the film. However, no offer has been made for the antagonist role.

The film will feature the origin story of the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", a group of ordinary high school kids who possess extraterrestrial powers and join forces to save the world, with the aid of giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords.

Dean Israelite is attached to direct the movie with the script written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. The action fantasy movie is scheduled for a release on January 13, 2017.
