The director opened up that he was hesitant to helm the sci-fi movie because he had 'a deep fear' and worried that he would disappoint its die-hard fans.

AceShowbiz - While fans have already known that Ridley Scott's 1982 hit "Blade Runner " will get a sequel with Denis Villeneuve directing, the moviemaker admitted he initially thought that the idea to make a sequel was bad. He was hesitant to helm the untitled Blade Runner project because he had a deep fear to work on a property which has so many die-hard fans.

"It's more than nervous, it's a deep fear. I mean when I heard that Ridley Scott wanted to do another movie in the 'Blade Runner' universe, at first my reaction was that it's a fantastic idea, but it may be a very bad idea," Villeneuve said. "I'm among the hardcore fans of 'Blade Runner'. 'Blade Runner' is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's a movie that is linked with my love and passion for cinema."

Although it's hard for Villeneuve to accept the project, he finally signed on to direct it. He opened up that he felt so honored to direct such incredible movie. "I accepted to do it because I felt that Hampton Fancher, Ridely Scott and Michael Green did a fantastic job on the screenplay. It's a very powerful screenplay," Villeneuve explained the reasons why he finally signed the deal. "And I felt that it made sense to me and I had the Ridley Scott blessing. But you ask if I hesitated. I hesitated massively. It took me a lot of time to say yes. Not because I didn't believe in it, because I was like 'Who am I to dare to touch that?' And at the same there's a part of me that said, 'I'm a hardcore fan, I don't want to f**k that up.' "

Villeneuve didn't share any details of the movie, but he did hint at how the movie would be like. "The movie will be autonomous and at the same time there will be some link, but I cannot talk too much about it," he carefully said. When he was asked about further details about the movie, Villeneuve refused to reveal anything, "The less you guys will know, the more it's gonna be interesting... I understand enthusiasm, but a thing I love as a film lover is to sit in the theater not knowing a lot of things."

He stressed that the movie would be a big challenge for him, but he agreed to take it because it inspired him a lot and it's also exciting. "I'm totally aware of the huge challenge. It's gonna be the biggest risk of my life but I'm okay with that," he said.

Villeneuve added some more information, saying that Harrison Ford had signed a deal before he did. He also said that Ford was the nicest guy he'd met. Scott will still be involved in the project as a producer. "Blade Runner 2" is expected to arrive in the U.S. in 2017.
